The Budget Bureau is comprised of four sections: Budget; Office of Research; Federal Grants Management; and Information and Statistical Analysis. The Budget Section coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget request, the operating budget, and provides budgetary control and analysis for the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) which has a budget of approximately $300 million dollars.

The Office of Research and Grants Management section conducts research on assigned projects, maintains records on the department fleet, and manages all federal grant activities. The Information and Statistical Analysis section compiles, evaluates, and reports statistical information on the inmate population as well as a variety of areas with the NMCD.
The Budget Bureau consists of the Bureau Chief, four (4) Budget Analysts and a Business Operations Specialist. Each analyst is assigned at least two facilities and/or division budgets to monitor and is a liaison between the department business managers and the Budget bureau Chief for communicating problems and special needs that arise and may require budget adjustment requests (BARS) or other funding to remedy the shortfall(s). In addition, they may be assigned special projects by upper management. The Business Operations Specialist is located within the Office of Research and Grants Management and performs the duties listed within that section.
