Job Descriptions
Boiler Operator (Correctional Officer Specialist - Operational)
  1. To operate the power plant equipment while supervising the work, training and security of assigned correctional inmates.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. 2 years boiler experience is required for position.
  4. Must have boilers 1 & 2 certifications.
  5. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  6. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  7. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  8. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.
  9. May be required to perform on-call duties.
  10. All applicants for this position must be licensed in accordance with Construction Industries Licensing, 60-13-1 through 60-13-59; 14.6.3.1 through 14.6.3.9 NMAC; 14.6.4.1 through 14.6.4.8; and 14.6.6.1 through 14.6.6.14, as applicable. You must include your license or certificate number in the “License” section of the application form. 
Electrician (Correctional Officer Specialist - Operational)
  1. To perform electrical work in a prison facility while supervising the work, training, and security of assigned inmates.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. Must be licensed.
  4. 2 years electrical experience is required for this position.
  5. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  6. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  7. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  8. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.

Plumber (Correctional Officer Specialist - Advanced)
  1. Responsible for the maintenance of facility plumbing and systems to ensure optimum operating capacity and to ensure the safety of employees and residents of the Corrections Department.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. 2 years experience in the general maintenance of plumbing equipment and systems is required for this position.
  4. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  6. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  7. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.
  8. May be required to perform on-call duties.
  9. Must have Journeyman Plumbing certification.
  10. Must be licensed or “MM - 98”.
HVAC (Correctional Officer Specialist K - Operational)
  1. To provide heating and refrigeration services in a prison facility. Will include supervision of inmates.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. 2 years experience in heating and refrigeration is required for this position.
  4. Must have an EPA Universal Certificate Refrigeration.
  5. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  6. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  7. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  8. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.
  9. May be required to perform on-call duties.
Locksmith (Correctional Officer Specialist - Operational)
  1. Responsible for all locksmith functions for an extensive key control system in a prison. May require the supervision of inmate work assistants.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. 2 years experience as a locksmith is required for this position.
  4. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  6. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  7. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.
  8. May be required to perform on-call duties.
General Maintenance (Correctional Officer Specialist - Operational)
  1. Provide general maintenance in a prison facility and supervision of inmate work crew.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  3. 2 years experience in general maintenance may include: carpentry, cement work, painting, remodeling, some of knowledge of plumbing and electrical a plus.
  4. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid NM drivers license.
  6. Pre-employment background investigation is required.
  7. Completion of Basic Corrections Training Course within the first six months of employment.
  8. May be required to perform on-call duties.
