Central New Mexico Correctional Facility, Los Lunas

The Central New Mexico Correctional Facility (CNMCF) is located approximately 30 minutes southwest of Albuquerque,
New Mexico. Located in the Village of Los Lunas, it is one of the largest employers of this rural community. Originally
built in 1980 as a 480-bed medium custody facility, it has now grown to be part of a three-unit complex. The Main Unit
provides support to the two sister units for all centralized services. Thus, the vast majority of support, auxiliary and
specialized services are provided through the Main Unit. The Level I Unit is also a satellite of CNMCF, and is located
approximately two miles south of CNMCF Main Unit. It is currently the only Level I facility remaining in the New Mexico
Corrections Department. The Level II Unit is a satellite of CNMCF, and is located on the same grounds. It houses 330
inmates with medical and mental health restrictions. |

The Main Unit is broken down into one primary and five secondary missions. The primary mission is the Reception and
Diagnostic Center for the Department. Fifty-four percent of the individuals incarcerated within the unit are a part
of the Reception and Diagnostic process. The first secondary mission is the Mental Health Treatment Center (MHTC)
with a total of fifteen percent of the population. Next we have a small portion of general population inmates that are
required to remain at the unit based on medical or mental health care needs. The general population encompasses
thirteen percent of the population. The next two missions surround the Long Term Care Unit (LTCU) with six percent
and the Geriatric Unit with five percent of the total population. Lastly, the Main Unit carries a 48-bed segregation
unit that totals seven percent of the population.
