New Mexico Women’s Correctional Facility, Grants
Corrections Corporation of America (CCA)-New Mexico Women’s Correctional Facility (NMWCF)
is located within the city limits of Grants, New Mexico, a city with a population of
approximately 10,000 people.
In May 2003, the New Mexico Corrections Department created the office of Female Offender
Services to provide oversight of services and programs at the New Mexico Women’s
Correctional Facility. The office, in collaboration with NMWCF, provides a gender
responsive environment with a continuum of programs and services, which are designed to
expand the economic and social roles of women. An emphasis is placed on education,
career counseling, traditional and non-traditional vocational training, life skills,
including parenting and pre-release, as well as addressing the unique medical and mental
health needs of women. This process begins at reception and continues through parole in
order to assist the female offender in her successful transition back into the community
and her family.
